In October 2003, 16 members of Strean Presbyterian Church (Newtownards, Northern Ireland) journeyed to Camp Shalom near Londrina in southern Brazil. For many years, the congregation has supported two members of the congregation as they worked for the missionary organisation OMS International running the camp. Tommy and Margaret Scott had served the Lord for many years in Brazil, and, as they began to contemplate retirement it was decided that some members of Strean should visit. The main aim of the visit was to enhance the campsite with the addition of a children's playground, but we were also able to help complete other odd jobs around the camp, had the privilege to visit a number of churches in the region and even got some time to see some of Brazil. The following diary is my personal account of this trip.
There are too many people to thank for making the trip what it was, but particular recognition should go to Neil & Sylv for braving the organisation of a group of 16 people; everyone who looked after us and welcomed us in Brazil; and the 15 other members of the group I was part of - it was real fun travelling with you all.
